Previous posts have introduced the re-purposed Pumphouse that sits proudly in the centre of Tasmania. When blog follower Ju alerted me to the 2015 Tasmanian Architectural Awards I was keen to follow up. I found the new buildings at Pumphouse Point on Lake St Clair won this year’s Commercial Award. The accompanying information includes words such as art deco, Tasmanian Wilderness, heritage, World Heritage Area – I hope these focussed your attention as they did mine.
Complete with 18 guest suites, a communal lounge area and a shared dining area, I find this development very attractive. When I checked the website (http://www.pumphousepoint.com.au/) imagine my surprise to discover that of the 18 accommodation spaces very very few remain to be booked over the coming weeks. Popular!!! Yes.
I plan to stay for one or two nights as my reward for completing the walk along the Derwent River to Lake St Clair – one day when that happens (bring on the warmer weather!). Can you blame me?

Now I have an idea. Perhaps the Pumphouse should sponsor your interesting and informative blog by offering you free accommodation and the opportunity to herald the inspiring building in the magnificent surroundings.

Over the weekend I was looking at some walking books and discovered the walk from Penguin on Tassie’s north west coast south to the Cradle Mt National Park mostly walks along the Leven River. Now is that my next challenge????? But I mustn’t get ahead of myself – I still have a long way to go on the Derwent.

The Pumphouse certainly looks interesting. Great to see old buildings have a new lease of life. I stopped at Lake St Clair on Wednesday on way across to Strahan. Must go back and explore the lake and region.

Yes it does look interesting and I look forward to visiting. The online reviews are not particularly good about the food (which is a ridiculous great shame in our state with its wonderful fresh produce), however the building, the location and the ambience all rate highly. I look forward to getting your take on the place if you visit.
