Tracks
Meandering at the edges of paddocks and sometimes across them, the deeply engrained cow and sheep trails were my usual pathways. When I was not following these, I opted to walk on vehicular tracks. At all times, I deliberately set out to leave no trace of my passing.
Even when I climb fences, I make an extra effort to restore any reshaping to the original configuration. The last thing I want is for anyone to see that a fence has been climbed and believe this is a regular ‘pathway’. When fences become distorted, they start the journey to break down and, with valuable livestock to be managed, no farmer wants to be worrying about maintaining fences when the deterioration is not time-related.
The Derwent River
The speed of the river flowing downstream always surprises me. The power of that water, the changing colours of that deep mass, the scale of the River, and the variations in the unique landscapes on the edge impress me strongly. Time and again.
Where the Derwent passes through Cluny Lagoon and Meadowbank Lake, the wider expanses of water gleam.

With your surname of Risdon, I wonder if you are related to anybody who was connected with the establishment of Risdon in the Greater Hobart Area?

Hi, thanks for getting in touch. Yes, my husband is related to the first Risdon setting foot on Van Diemans Island as it was back then. Plenty of Risdons still there too. I am the family history researcher for both our families. Your photos are lovely and the blog so interesting and I am enjoying it so much. Although I am a crime writer, I do my bit for those enjoying natural beauty and if I go on a trip I will blog with photos. We have travelled the world but not in your neck of the woods – yet. Oh I have never been. My husband ahs family there and of course there were Risdons there from the time it changed its name from Van Diemen’s Island, but yes that would be nice.

Helen I have not posted anything at all as I am writing a book on family history, but do look up Lt. William Bellamy Risdon whose British ship took on the Dutch think in 18th century and who Risdon Cove is named for I seem to recall off the top of my head. I am look it up in my notes otherwise. Glad you are enjoying it; and as far as the word ‘sharing’ goes, I have never seen the value in holding onto information. Some people take a power trip by doing so but I have always thought they were foolish because information evolves.
