The glow of bioluminescent phytoplankton in the blue waters of southern Tasmania

Near the mouth of the Derwent River on its eastern shore, a natural phenomenon has been sparkling at night. Glorious!

Thanks for the extra information. Unfortunately, there are no buses down that way at night so I won’t get to see them directly. Even if buses had been scheduled the temperature is really cold so I might have used that as an excuse not to go. Wimpish I know, when compared to your low temperatures in winter.

Exceptionally beautiful. Natural wonders, natural food, natural fibres, nature… Why do we choose artificial substitutes?

My horticulturist block placer tells me these shows are common further south of the Derwent River; he wondered what all the fuss was about with the newspaper article. I told him I’d never seen it, didn’t know its existence so any publicity was great. I look forward to the day when I can see such a spectacular display.
